10-12pm Workshop on 'Feel' (no horses needed)
Students will be led through various exercises, taking it turns to be the 'horse' or the 'handler,' Throughout the session there will plenty of facilitated opportunities for helpful feedback, time to try out different ways of improving your feel and be given ideas on how to be more aware of what you are offering and receiving within your feel. This requires a dry area with firm footing. 1pm onwards Semi-private sessions with your horse (45min -1hr each) Each student will work with a horse at their own level of ability, practicing their deeper understanding of 'feel' learnt in the workshop. Students can choose to do groundwork/in-hand or ridden work. There will be time for short questions at the end of each session - longer answers will be handled during reflections. This requires a secure area with firm footing and somewhere for participants to watch. Finish Reflections (1/2 hour) The day concludes with a half hour reflection on what people have felt/learnt/discovered during the clinic. Also any questions that haven't been explored will be addressed at this point. Finish time will depend on participant numbers. £50 per person minimum 3 people £25 for non-horse participants Large group discounts available |
Horses offer us a huge amount of information about the feel we offer them, but it can takes years of working with many different horses to recognise what the horse is telling us, understand the nuances and, in turn, know how respond to keep communication elastic and clear for the horse.
'Feel' - from the Horse's Perspective' shortcuts this by working with each other to help gain valuable insight into our own feel using verbal feedback. I will guide students into a better understanding of the reality and complexity of the feel we offer and receive from the horse. This in turn will help us become more effective, connected handlers and riders.
By working with each other in a supportive and ecouraging environment we can explore how we offer aids, cues and/or demands and how our feel can motivate or hinder the horse.
